    Jharkhand became a separate state on 15 November 2000 after a long statehood movement in which JMM played a major role.

    JMM returns to government

    JMM won 30 Assembly seats and formed the Jharkhand government with allies, with Hemant Soren becoming Chief Minister.

    JMM won 34 of 81 Assembly seats and remained the single largest party.
