Last updated 15 September 2026

NetaData ("NetaData," "we," "us," or "our") operates netadata.in (the "Site"), a civic education platform that helps people explore profiles of Indian politicians, political parties, states, constituencies and parliamentary information. NetaData is not affiliated with any political party, and the political content on the Site is compiled from public records and cited sources.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from visitors to the Site, how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to your use of the Site and does not apply to third-party websites we link to or cite as sources.

By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

We collect information you choose to give us, such as when you:

  • Contact us with a question, correction, or feedback (e.g., name, email address, and the content of your message)
  • Sign up to receive updates or newsletters, if this feature is offered
  • Report an error in a politician, party, or constituency profile

You are never required to create an account or submit personal information simply to browse the Site.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • Usage data — pages viewed, links clicked, search terms entered in our search bar, time spent on pages, and referring/exit pages
  • Device and browser data — browser type and version, operating system, device type, and screen resolution
  • Log and network data — IP address, approximate location (typically city/region level, derived from IP address), and timestamps of access

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) to:

  • Remember your preferences (e.g., a previously selected state or search filter)
  • Understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it
  • Support analytics tools that measure traffic and engagement

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some Site features, such as saved preferences. Where required by applicable law, we will request your consent before setting non-essential cookies.

2How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site, including its search, profile pages, and data visualizations
  • Respond to inquiries, corrections, and feedback you submit
  • Send updates you have opted in to receive
  • Understand aggregate usage patterns and improve content accuracy and site performance
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent technical issues, misuse, or security incidents
  • Comply with applicable laws and legal obligations

We do not use your personal information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

4How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:

  • Service providers who help us run the Site, such as hosting providers and analytics tools (e.g., website analytics services), under obligations to protect your data
  • Legal and safety authorities, where required to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or valid governmental request
  • Successors, if NetaData is involved in a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets — in which case we will notify users of any material change to this policy

The political profiles, party records, and election data displayed on the Site are drawn from public sources and citations (such as the Election Commission of India, ADR/MyNeta, PRS Legislative Research, and party or government websites). This published civic content is separate from — and not governed by — the personal data practices described in this policy.

5Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by applicable law. Contact form submissions and correction requests are typically retained only as long as needed to resolve your query, after which they are deleted or anonymized.

7Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, including the DPDP Act, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Withdraw consent you previously gave (e.g., for update emails)
  • Request erasure of your personal information, where applicable
