The Election Commission recognised the Sharad Pawar faction under the name Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar and allotted it the 'Man Blowing Turha' symbol in 2024.

    Original NCP founded

    Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma and Tariq Anwar founded the Nationalist Congress Party after separating from the Indian National Congress.

    NCP split

    A major organisational and legislative split occurred in the Nationalist Congress Party, with Ajit Pawar leading a rival faction and Sharad Pawar retaining a separate organisational formation.

  3. 2024
    Election Commission decision

    On 6 February 2024, the Election Commission recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the NCP for organisational and symbol purposes. The Sharad Pawar faction was given a one-time option to choose a new name.

    The Election Commission accepted the name Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar for Sharad Pawar's group and allotted the 'Man Blowing Turha' symbol.
